Valuable experience which help us to build successful websites.
| Website design experience | BTS Internet Services began producing websites in 1997 when the owner, Brian, started a website about Bonsai in the Netherlands. That website still receives between 200 and 300 visitors per day.
BTS Internet Services has had experience of helping companies to improve their business through Internet, not just by building a website, but also advising on marketing and business aspects. We have built up knowledge about what does and what does not work on Internet.
We are successful at building informative websites that get good rankings in the search engines.
Our service doesn't finish when the website is ready. We monitor statistics and make changes and improvements.
The websites we build are upgradeable. Several clients have started out with small websites and later added more features, such as a webshop. Database driven websites have now part of our routine work.
Websites don't have to be expensive. Most of our clients have seen an increase in business through their website by spending less than they would normally pay for a half page advertisement in a specialist magazine. | | Business experience | Business experience is the key to success on Internet.
Brian has a wide range of business experience. He has run his own business since 1999, ran a small business unit for 3 years, has run projects ranging from 4 to 18 months for commercial companies - including selecting software for business, participating in business start-ups, software development projects with 65 project members and setting up and running quality control units for both government and commercial businesses. For 13 years he was business and information consultant for a company in The Netherlands which regularly involved 'selling ideas' to management, staff and customers.
In contrast, he has also worked in pubs and restaurants which was good experience in customer service and selling.
Els, the other half of BTS Internet Services, has worked for a large Dutch Bank. She was for several years part owner of a successful garden centre where she developed marketing experience. She has worked as the manager's personal assistant in a very busy technical designer's office, provided secretarial and bookkeeping services for small companies and has worked for a large health insurance company.
Els runs the holiday homes side of the business and has been building websites since 2001. | | Computer experience | Computers existed long before Internet brought visual communication into our homes, businesses and workplaces.
Brian moved into the computer software industry in 1976. He worked as a programmer, database designer, systems implementer, information analyst, project leader and quality controller. He moved to The Netherlands in 1982. After another 4 years in programming and analysis he moved to a company of Information Technology and Organisational Consultants. Most of the work was in The Netherlands but some of his contracts took him to France, Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands.
His main functions were in project leading, project and people management, quality control and data management. He specialised in databases and software development tools, and gave courses, lectured to Dutch and English specialist groups and was editor and The Netherlands representative in an International Standards Organisation (ISO) sub-committee. He spent several years setting up quality control groups and designing and re-designing large and small databases in many computing environments.
Why doesn't he still do this?
He still performs many of these tasks within BTS Internet Services, but has left the 'corporate world' and Northern European weather behind him to run his own company specialising in building effective websites ... in a warm climate. | | Languages | Brian's mother tongue is English. He speaks the Dutch language fluently, is learning Spanish and understands German.
Els's mother tongue is Dutch. She speaks English fluently, is proficient in Spanish and speaks good German.
We frequently build websites which are displayed in several languages and have built a support system to enable us to build the framework for the website and then fill the content in the languages required by the client. In this way it is possible to produce and promote websites in languages in which we are not fluent. | | Life, the Universe and Everything | Like most things in this world, you can learn from books but understanding comes with many years of experience.
BTS Internet Services is owned and run by Brian Smith. Brian was born (1950) and brought up in England, studied Geology, worked in a Golf club and a factory before moving into the computer software industry in 1976. He has worked part-time in restaurants and bars. Travelled in Europe, Canada, the United States, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Korea. As business consultant he has worked for major Dutch banks, Ministries and local and International companies and ran projects in Spain, France, Portugal, England and Holland.
He has moved country twice, raised 2 children and is now restoring and old Canary Island cottage from where he and Els run their business.
A varied life and a wide range of experiences which enable him not only to build your website but also to place himself in the position of your clients and produce a website which encourages them to become your clients.Note: "Life, the Universe and Everything" is the title of one of the books in the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy series, by Douglas Adams.
